SHELTER SHOOT: The Sato Project

Between 2011 and 2013, I photographed many Sato rescues from The Sato Project. These dogs were all rescued from Dead Dog Beach and when they came to my studio in New York, I wanted to give them their dignity back. They are often considered vermin in Puerto Rico because their are street dogs, they don't "belong" to anyone. But once rescued, rehabilitated, vetted and flown over to New York, they finally become what they were meant to be: pets who are loved and cared for. These portraits celebrate their new life.
